Become an EPEC Trainer

Become an EPEC Trainer Conference
Thursday and Friday, October 20-21, 2022

The Become an EPEC Trainer Conference is a two-day conference for participants who want to become EPEC trainers in order to teach the essential clinical competencies of palliative care. Topics covered include communication skills, symptom management and ethics relevant to palliative care. Participants are exposed to a variety of educational techniques based on adult learning principles, including interactive lecture, role play and case-based teaching. In addition, participants receive EPEC educational materials, including the EPEC Curriculum, PowerPoint slides, and trigger videos.

Upon completion of the conference, participants are designated as EPEC Trainers and are encouraged to use their knowledge and skills to educate fellow clinicians in the core competencies of palliative and end-of-life care.

Professional Development Workshop (PDW)

Professional Development Workshop (PDW)
Saturday, October 22, 2022

The EPEC Professional Development Workshop (PDW) is a one-day conference that focuses on “teaching about teaching.” The day will consist of brief didactic presentations on three core teaching approaches (interactive lectures, case-based teaching and role play) that are used in the EPEC program and many other teaching settings. Following these presentations, participants will have the opportunity to practice using these three approaches and get feedback. The PDW is open to those who have attended the "Become an EPEC Trainer" conference as well as those who have attended any other past EPEC conferences or who have completed other palliative care training and have a particular interest in medical education.
