Virtual Professional Development Workshop (PDW)

Friday, July 9, 9:30 AM – 5:30 PM Central Time

Registration Fee: $395 Physicians/$295 non-Physicians

The EPEC Professional Development Workshop (PDW) is a one-day virtual conference that focuses on “teaching about teaching.” The day will begin with brief didactic presentations on three core teaching approaches (interactive lectures, small group teaching and role play) that are used in the EPEC program and many other teaching settings. Following these presentations, participants will have the opportunity to practice and get feedback using these three approaches. Throughout, we will consider relevance to virtual and in-person teaching. The small groups in this conference will have a maximum of 10 participants.

This workshop is open to all EPEC Trainers and all others, of any discipline, who wish to improve their teaching techniques.

Objectives:

  • Describe interactive teaching techniques relevant for virtual and in-person teaching.
  • Practice and receive feedback on teaching techniques.

CME and CEU Credit hours wil be available.

Become an EPEC Trainer

The Become an EPEC Trainer Conference is a two day conference for participants who want to become EPEC trainers in order to teach the essential clinical competencies of palliative care to others. Topics covered include communication skills, symptom management, and ethics relevant to palliative care. Participants are exposed to a variety of education techniques based on adult learning principles, including interactive lecture, role play, and case-based teaching. In addition, participants receive EPEC educational materials including the EPEC Curriculum, PowerPoint slides, and trigger videos. Upon completion of the conference, participants are designated as EPEC Trainers and are encouraged to use their knowledge and skills to educate fellow clinicians in the core competencies of palliative and end-of-life care.

Every Autumn we host two “Become a Trainer” Conferences simultaneously.

“Become an EPEC Trainer” is our core curriculum and is suitable for all specialties and disciplines.
“Become an EPEC-EM Trainer” is an adaptation of our core curriculum specifically designed for clinicians working in Emergency Medicine.
